Even the most productive people need self care breaks from time to time. Self care starts with making time to take care of you. You don’t have to plan a spa day or luxury get away (although we do love those), to start either. You can practice self care anywhere, doing not only the things you enjoy, but those that nourish both your body and soul.
So to start off:
What is Self-care?
Self care is care provided “for you, by you.” It’s about identifying your own needs and taking the steps to meet them. It is taking the time to do some of the activities that nurture you. Self care is about taking proper care of yourself and treating yourself as kindly as you treat others.
Here’s some ideas to help you get started on your self care journey:
1. Listen to Music
It’s no secret how music affects your brain. We recommend creating a self-care playlist to easily come back to when you need it. Your playlist could definitely just be a playlist of your favorite songs, or you could tailor them more to whatever mood you want to be in.
2. Watch the Sunrise or Sunsets
Did you know that watching sunset/sunrises are actually beneficial for your mental and physical health? Not to mention a beautiful scenery to help you feel more connected to and appreciate nature. It’s a wonderful way to start or end your day so if you can, try and catch it this week~
3. Journal
My personal favorite; think of your journal as a safe space for letting anything out. Seeing your thoughts on paper, telling stories, it’s all therapeutic.
4. Take a Walk
This is your space, a time without distractions to just take in the nature and let your mind wander. Walking is also a great form of exercise, which can play a major role in your overall mood as it helps to boost endorphins, or “feel‐good” chemicals in the brain.
5. Get Some Sun
Welcome back to the list, sun. Research has shown that vitamin D may play an important role in regulating mood and even warding off depression. Plus, sunny days just feel good.
6. Take a Bath
Treat yourself to a warm bath, set up some candles, and just relax! Baths have been proven to be an effective mood booster. According to a new study, taking a hot bath every day could actually help treat depression better than exercise can.
7. Meditate
The mental, emotional, physical, & spiritual benefits of daily meditation are incredible. Meditation is known to reduces stress, anxiety, and promote emotional health.
